when looking for recruits, WTF searches for people unaffected by their memory-erasing technology. ideally these recruits should be athletic, stealthy, non-contentious in the face of orders given to them, and very, very quick thinkers in stressful situations.
while ayami might not check off the boxes for most of these qualities, she is still a good agent in her own right. a bit on-edge at all times, she can initially come off as defensive and quick to agitate, but this is only a front to protect herself after the death of her parents. it's difficult for her to necessarily get attached to anyone, but when she does, she's deeply loyal to them, albeit it's nearly impossible for her to admit when she's gotten attached to someone.
the person she's the most attached to (and also basically the only person she trusts with this fact) is sasha miccione, her best friend and co-worker at WTF. with a bond as strong as glue, they're practically attached at the hip, and it's unlikely for anyone to see them apart. other than sasha, though, ayami doesn't have many people she would consider "friends," and is very particular as to who she lets into her rather small friend circle.
ayami isn't exactly athletic at all, neither is she quite secretive, unargumentative, or a quick thinker. but she has an eye for detail, and a knack for noticing things that most others don't at first glance. she is also skilled at assembling the pieces of a plot together when given enough clues, which benefits during planning as well. all and all, she still heavily benefits the corporation during missions and is generally considered a quality addition to the michigan division of WTF.
